Wildlife Wednesday #3

Since we started visiting the Kgalagadi in 2022 we have had some amazing Lion sightings. However last month was our favourite trip due to the awesome encounters and one of these were a pair of mating Lions.

This was on the 7th day of our holiday and despite the heat we sat in the car for a couple of hours photographing these two. The male Lion is trying to extend his territory and the easiest way to do that is to mate with a Lioness.

Once a Lioness has her cubs, she will then be faithful to the dominant male in whose territory she is in. The Lioness knows that she will then be protected. Should another male Lion enter their territory both she and her cubs will be safe.

As you can imagine this was such a special experience.
