Slowing down

Last Monday I thought I had a sinus issue but on Wednesday I woke up feeling worse and more like I was getting the flu.

I took a sick day and slept most of the day, just waking up to sip tea or take some cold meds. Then after a shower and dinner I slept through the night.

I woke up the next morning feeling rested and so much better. Usually I struggle through flu and viruses and they take days if not weeks to go away. Perhaps it was something mild I had but perhaps it was because I actually took the time to rest.

It is super rare for me to take a sick day - I usually just push through and then wonder why I feel worse.

Often I have felt like rest needed to be earned. Sometimes I wonder if this is some leftover notion from my school days. Missing school or after school activities was frowned on - especially in high school. Weird how the mindset has followed me so many years later.

However last week I was reminded that slowing down and listening to your body is a highly underrated form of self-care.
