April 2025 Kgalagadi holiday part 2

In my previous post I shared the experiences we had with some amazing Big Cat sightings

Today I’m posting about some special viewings (of very tall and also very small) wildlife.

Being in nature has taught me to appreciate every sighting and I love to slow down and soak up all the beautiful animals and birds that roam in the Kgalagadi. While seeing an elusive Leopard is always overwhelmingly special there are surprises around every corner.

SPOTTED HYENA

We saw two Spotted Hyena running around and were super happy when they stopped to drink from a huge puddle of water. This was my favourite Hyena sighting ever - it was the longest time we’d ever spent watching these scavengers.

BAT-EARED FOX

YOUNG SURRICATE

SURRICATE AND BABY

Each trip our evening routine was to sit on the patio back at the Kgalagadi Lodge after our afternoon drive. As the sun dipped below the horizon, we always discussed our favourite sightings for the day.

Our April trip was packed with excitement and looking back at the photos taken, I find it difficult to choose a favourite sighting or moment.

Because being in the wild and watching nature’s raw beauty is an experience in itself. We can hope to have amazing sightings but there is no guarantee as to what we’ll see. What the weather will do. What the day will hold.

It is always a surprise and perhaps that is a huge contributor to the insatiable thrill experienced when driving through the gates with a camera. The hope of being able to preserve a moment in time before it becomes a memory.
