Early morning routines that work
Yesterday was my first day back at work and when that alarm went off over an hour earlier I refused to press snooze. I’d set it early so that I could put the kettle on and get online before the work day started to look at my inbox. 2 weeks on leave and you can imagine there was quite alot to read and catch up on! I got out a notepad for urgent items and worked my way through it - even starting my day with tea instead of strong coffee for a change!
By lunchtime I was back in the swing of things - firmly in my daily routine thanks to muscle memory. I was even prepared for a weekly meeting (which thankfully was pushed out by a few hours).
But if I’d re-set the alarm, rolled over and snoozed - the day would have been completely different. Even though I’d have started my work day on time, the morning would have been filled with playing catch up, timelines would have felt tighter and deadlines stressful.
So this morning, I did the exact same thing - early alarm and cup of tea. Checked e-mails and then eased into the day with a sense of purpose. During busy times I obviously work much longer hours but even then that early start helps me set up for the day.
It reminded me of this quote:
Either you run the day or the day runs you - Jim Rohn
Do you have a morning routine? If so, what do you find works well?
