5 Ways to be kinder to yourself
Today is day 13 of NaBloPoMo and I am using inspiration from the list of Five Things Prompts that San shared with us.
Start your day doing something that is just for you
For some people it might be a workout, a yoga class or simply having their coffee while quietly journaling. It could be reading a few chapters of a book or starting the day with a meditation. We’ve heard the saying “you cannot pour from an empty cup” so many times. So take the time to fill your cup first thing in the morning.
be aware of your self-talk
Sometimes our inner critic can be harsh. Being mindful of how you speak to yourself is wonderful way to practice self-love.
An easy way to make this a daily habit is to ask yourself regularly “Would I speak this way to someone I care about?”
If you are exhausted or you feel overwhelmed about something. How would you speak to a close friend in the same situation? You’d be sympathetic and encouraging wouldn’t you?
Now practice that same kindness with yourself.
set boundaries
If that is easier said than done, then try a different route.
Remind yourself to be aware of your limits. Are you able to say yes to everyone without constantly saying no to yourself?
This time of year is busy, so if you feel bad declining an invite then ask yourself if you are able to fully commit and still be able to carve out time for yourself? Perhaps you are energized by socializing regularly or maybe this drains your battery.
Know your limits, then set your boundaries.
DITCH THE ALL OR NOTHING ATTITUDE and realise every bit counts
It is one thing to set goals but being aware of your attitude when things don’t go according to your schedule is also important.
Things happen, plans can change and when they do, give yourself grace. Move on, don’t throw in the towel. And this can apply to so many areas of a person’s life - work, fitness, health - a little bit every day add up.
CELEBRATE YOUR WINS
Got a good performance review? Completed a task you’ve been putting off? Distanced yourself from someone who can never be happy for you?
Don’t procrastinate feeling good about something you have done well.
Celebrate your wins. You have earned them.
How do you show yourself kindness?
